Chira Island is escape...it is a refuge... an island only 15 minutes away from the Costa Rican main land by boat. Located in the Bay of Nicoya, away from storms and harsh weather often experienced by the ocean... the island is populated by over 3000 people, and is nearly 30 miles in circumference.
The majority of the island's inhabitants either farm or fish for their livelihood. And because of its location, the inhabitants and the island have remained a world apart. There are several schools on the island for the children... there is a medical clinic as well as several restaurants, mini marts, hardware stores and small sodas. The infrastructure and amenities rival anything on the mainland.
There is virtually no crime, no pollution, no traffic jams, no casinos... life on Isla Chira moves at its own pace. And because so much of the island life is centered around the ocean... it is normal that boating, fishing and exploring the other islands has become a large part of activities and life on isla Chira.
There are ten separate beaches surrounding the island... an island river, mountains and vast areas which remain unexplored. The spanish and early indigenous tribes made Chire their home and searching for artifacts and even treasures remains a part of their culture.
The Bay of Nicoya, while known, is a little explored area... fishing is phenomenal and diving and snorkeling is commonplace in parts of the bay as it is the exploration of other nearly abandoned islands. The island itself is
unbelievable beautiful, with vistas extending to the surrounding mountains, bays, rivers, and other nearby islands. Judge for yourself as we think that the views and
surroundings are without equal anywhere in Costa Rica.
We introduce you to Chira... arguably one of the most beautiful, private and tranquil places in all Costa Rica. |
